If You’re Studying Online, These 4 Scholarships Can Help

Online learning is nothing new, as it was steadily growing in popularity. Once COVID-19 arrived, it became even popular, as college campuses closed and in-person classes were replaced with virtual ones.

Most were forced to switch to distance learning in the name of safety this year. But many see online learning as an opportunity to reduce the expenses associated with getting a college degree, while also getting to make your own schedule.

How can online learning be less expensive? For starters, you don’t have to go to class, which cuts your transportation costs. Second, you don’t have to relocate or move close to campus, which can save you in terms of living costs. And if you’re a parent, distance learning can save you tons of money on childcare, as you can stay home and look after your kids while you study, versus hiring someone to help you.

Unfortunately, getting your degree online can still be expensive despite all of those potential savings. Don’t let this stand in your way of graduating, though, as there are plenty of scholarships that can help.

1. P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education

If you think scholarships only exist for students fresh out of high school, think again. This grant (aka money you don’t have to pay back) is for adult women looking to go back to school to get their degrees or certification. You don’t necessarily have to be enrolled at a four-year college, as technical school will suffice, as will online programs.

How much can you win with the P.E.O. grant? Up to $3,000, which is a nice chunk of change to help pay some of your textbooks, fees, and tuition.

2. AAIA Displaced Homemaker Scholarship

This scholarship is the perfect example of how some awards are extremely specific in who qualifies. To be eligible, you’ll have to be at least 35 years of age and a Native American Tribe member. Why? Because the Association on American Indian Affairs created the scholarship to help Native American parents get their degrees after raising their kids.

3. Study.com Distance Learning Scholarships

You can get $500 towards your online studies with this degree from Study.com.
What does it take to win it? Besides being in distance learning, the scholarship committee is looking for students who participate in plenty of extracurricular activities and have strong grades.

4. Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund

Every year, over 90 low-income women aged 35 or older receive this scholarship to help them get their first college degree. With that many awards going out, you should apply for this degree should you meet those two primary requirements, as your chances of winning are high.
